Jerry Morey -PSI Specialist
Mr. Morey is a Federal Prison Consultant specializing in the Pre-Sentence Investigation/ Report (PSI/PSR). He completed a 41-month federal sentence and attained his extensive experience through hands-on work and not through academic theory. He explains that because the PSI/PSR impacts on so many critical areas, it is of absolute importance that the sentencing judge and the Bureau of Prisons see you in the best possible light. He will answer your questions and provide you guidance through this exhaustive process.
The interview with the probation officer, who will prepare the PSI/PSR, is the most important, yet most underestimated component of the sentencing process. Preparing you in advance of the interview can have a substantial positive impact on the sentencing outcome.
1. At sentencing, the judge relies heavily on the PSI/PSR which contains the recommendation of the probation officer.
2. The probation officer makes a number of critical decisions from whether to apply enhancements to recommendations on disputed issues of fact.
3. The BOP uses the PSI/PSR to determine the Inmate Security Designation and Custody Classification. This determines your initial security and custody level assignment.
4.Inaccurate information in the PSI/PSR can adversely affect the length and location of the period of incarceration.
Life in a federal prison is hard enough. There is no reason to make it harder by allowing an inaccurate, incomplete, biased, and slanted Pre-Sentence Investigation Report to be submitted to the sentencing judge and the Bureau of Prisons.
